Glycerol Monostearate (GMS), kozmetik formülasyonlarda emülgatör ve kıvam artırıcı/stabilizatör olarak yaygın şekilde kullanılır. Kremler, losyonlar, merhemler ve vücut bakım ürünlerinde su ve yağ fazını birleştirerek homojen ve stabil bir yapı oluşturur. Ürüne pürüzsüz, yumuşak ve dolgun bir doku kazandırır. Emülsiyonun ayrılmasını önler, aktif maddelerin ürün içinde eşit dağılmasına yardımcı olur. Kullanım oranı genellikle ürün tipine bağlı olarak %1 – %5 arasındadır; yoğun ve ağır krem formüllerinde %10’a kadar çıkabilir. Formülasyonda yağ fazında ısıtılarak eritilir ve ardından su fazı ile birleştirilir, tamamen homojen olana kadar karıştırılır. Çoğu yağ ve diğer emülgatörlerle uyumludur ve topikal kullanım için güvenlidir.
