Potasyum Hidroksit (KOH) kozmetikte güçlü bir baz olarak pH dengeleyici (alkali ajan) şeklinde kullanılır. Sabun üretiminde, özellikle katı ve sıvı sabunlarda saponifikasyon reaksiyonunda temel hammaddelerden biridir ve bazı formülasyonlarda ürünün alkaliliğini ayarlamak amacıyla tercih edilir. Ürünün pH seviyesini dengelemeye yardımcı olur. Kullanım oranı ürün türüne göre değişmekle birlikte gücü nedeniyle genellikle çok düşük oranlarda kullanılır. Formülasyona eklenmeden önce mutlaka uygun miktarda suda çözündürülür ve kullanım sırasında yüksek dikkat gerektirir. Çok güçlü bir madde olduğu için ciltle doğrudan temasında yanıklara neden olabilir, bu nedenle eldiven ve koruyucu gözlük kullanılması zorunludur ve doğrudan cilde uygulanmaz.
